Salep ist Pulver aus der Unterart vieler Arten der Orchidaceae-Familie und dem daraus hergestellten Getränk. Darüber hinaus wird der allgemeine Name für Orchideen in Anatolien gegeben. Salepgiller familyasından; tel köklü otsu bir bitkidir. Kökünde 2 tane yumru vardır. Bu yumrular nişasta benzeri polisakkarit glucomannan ismi verilen bileşikler içerir. Gövdesi, dik ve silindirimsidir. Çiçekleri salkım veya başak şeklindedir.
