Fibroblast

Fibroblasts are mobile, mesenchymal, mesenchymal cells occurring in the connective tissue which become unable to move to fibrocytes after maturation. They play an important role in the synthesis of the intercellular substance, the extracellular matrix. The products of fibroblasts mainly include the collagen, which together with the likewise formed proteoglycans provides for an increased strength of the extracellular matrix. Damage to the tissue stimulates the proliferation of fibroblasts and enhances the delivery of cytokines, which in turn have a positive effect on the repair of the injury. Fibroblasts of a mouse embryo Characteristics: ▪ many irregular cytoplasmic continuities ▪ bright, oval nuclei with nucleoli ▪ much ER and well-developed Golgi apparatus synthesize fibroblasts: ▪ procollagen ▪ glycosaminoglycans ▪ collagenase ...
