A blast is a young, not definitively differentiated cell that splits or synthesises functional proteins. Blasts usually differentiate into a particular cell type. Some cells that are differentiated themselves can "de-differentiate" into blasts. In the case of tumor cells, the presence of the typical characteristics of the blasts of blastar tumor cells is also referred to. Histologically, there are signs of increased metabolic activity: ▪ Dissipated chromatin ▪ Increased cell nucleus ▪ Increased endoplasmic reticulum ▪ Increased ribosomes ▪ Increased mitochondria ▪ Increased energy metabolism ▪ Increased RNA synthesis ▪ Increased protein synthesis ▪ Increased DNA synthesis in dividing cells ▪ Usually a nucleolus ... Ein Blast ist eine junge, nicht endgültig differenzierte Zelle, die sich teilt bzw. Funktionsproteine synthetisiert. Blasten differenzieren in der Regel zu einem speziellen Zelltyp aus. Manche an sich ausdifferenzierte Zellen können wieder zu Blasten „entdifferenzieren“. Auch bei Tumorzellen spricht man bei Vorliegen der typischen Eigenschaften der Blasten von blastären Tumorzellen.
