Hilum

The Hilum or Hilus is a word from the Latin and literally means "stalk". ▪ In the anatomy, a hilus is the starting point where blood vessels and nerves enter an organ. One speaks, for example, of the liver, lung, spleen, or kidney hilus. In the case of organs, which have a vascular supply over several vessels and in different places, there is no Hilus ▪ In botany, Hilum or German "navel" means the often visible attachment point where the seed for supplying nutrients via the funiculus is connected with the placenta was. A navel patch, for example, is noticeable on the horse chestnut seeds. ▪ In mycology, Hilum means: ▪ in a basidiospore, the scar at the point where the spore was growing at the basidia during growth. ▪ in the case of conidiospores, the scar on the spore, which arises after detachment from the conidiogenic cell.
