WHAT DOES PROTOPLAST MEAN IN GERMAN?

protoplast

Protoplast is the smallest self-sustaining morphological unit in cell walls, H. The plasmatic content of a cell. Therefore, this term is used in bacterial, fungal and plant cells, since they can have all cell walls. Animal cells, on the other hand, have no cell wall and are only limited by their plasmalemma. Protoplasts without a cell wall are produced by dissolving the cell wall by means of enzymes. In the case of bacteria, the murein layer is dissolved by means of EDTA and lysozyme, in the case of plant cells cellulose and pectin are dissolved in the cell wall by means of cellulases or pectinases. In the case of fungi equipped with different types of cell walls, other means can be used accordingly, for example, chitin cell walls can be dissolved with chitinase. In the case of bacterial cells, depending on the completeness, the removal of ▪ Protoplasts ▪ Sphaeroplasts The unit membrane / cytoplasmic membrane is retained in all cases.
