Border

Frontera

The border is a social transit between two cultures. Restricted to the political sphere, this term refers to a region or strip, while the term limit is linked to an imaginary conception. States have an essential characteristic: sovereignty, that is, the power to implant and exercise its authority in the manner in which they see fit. So that the exercise of sovereignty by States does not harm other nations, defined limits are created in portions of land, water and air. In the precise and exact point in which these limits come to an end is when one speaks of boundaries. Frontiers, contrary to what is often believed, are not demarcated only when there is land in between, because there are different types of borders: aerial, territorial, fluvial, maritime and lacustrine. This means that, in many cases, the border of one country with another is not defined only where there is land, because in some cases that division is made using rivers, seas, etc.
