Summer

Verano

Summer is one of the four seasons in the temperate zones. It is the warmest of them. It occurs between spring and autumn. Summer is characterized because the days are longer and because the nights are shorter. Astronomically, the summer solstice marks the beginning of that season. The autumn equinox needs the term of that season. Cultural and meteorologically these dates establish the beginning of both. In different cultures, the seasons begin on different dates, based on astronomical or meteorological phenomena. However, when summer occurs in the southern hemisphere it is winter in the northern hemisphere. As noted, summer may be boreal, when it occurs in the northern hemisphere, or austral, when it occurs in the southern hemisphere. However, sometimes summer is defined as the totality of the months of December, January and February in the southern hemisphere and as the whole of the months of June, July and August in the Northern Hemisphere.
