Sputum

Sputum

Sputum or sputum is a matter that is sputtered from the respiratory tract to the outside of the mouth, such as mucus or flegma mucus which is mixed with saliva. It is usually associated with airways in the lungs, bronchus, or respiratory tracts of a patient. Sputum sometimes contains blood, especially if the patient has a chronic cough that may be caused by severe tuberculosis. The sputum sample is the name given to the mucous membrane of the lower air route. Usually, it is used to make a microbiological investigation of respiratory infections. The best sputum samples do not contain much salivation because saliva pollutes the sample with oral bacteria. This condition was evaluated by a clinical microbiologist by examining the Gram dye method against the sputum. Over 25 squamous epithelium cells at low enlargement showed salivary pollution. If the sputum specimen is plotted, the sample portion that appears to be pus is the best part to form on the abrasive cotton. If there is any blood in the sputum, it should also be included.
