Civilization
Civilization comes from the Arabic word maddana, mudun, madain which means the opening of the city or society with the outward and spiritual progress. The word civilization can be interpreted to a more prosperous society. Other terms that are similar to civilization are: umran, hadarah, madaniyah. In English, the terms that are almost identical to civilization are culture and civilization in Malay. The word civilization in English comes from the Greek civitas meaning city. Scholars have discussed the similarities and differences of those terms. The term Civilization is widely used in the writing of Islamic Civilization.
