Tol refers to the charges incurred for a vehicle traveling through a road. Usually the fee is used to finance the construction and maintenance of the road. Total tolls collected depends on the number of vehicles passing through the road, but the returns are usually very high. A toll quoted is called a toll hut or a toll plaza. In addition to highways, tolls may also be charged for bridges and tunnels. There are two types of toll roads: open systems and closed systems. In a closed system, all drivers need to take the ticket at the plaza, and settle the payment at the plaza. Rates are based on travel distance. If the ticket is lost or damaged, usually the maximum payment will be charged. This system is suitable for inter-city highway. In open systems, toll plazas are located in several strategic places and all vehicles through which they are subject to a fixed charge. Despite saving money for not having to build a large toll plaza, it may cause congestion, and drivers may be able to avoid it.

Tol merujuk kepada bayaran yang dikenakan bagi sesebuah kenderaan yang melalui sesuatu jalan raya. Biasanya bayaran tersebut digunakan bagi membiayai pembinaan dan penyelenggaraan jalan tersebut. Jumlah tol yang dikutip bergantung kepada jumlah kenderaan yang melalui jalan tersebut, tetapi biasanya pulangannya amat tinggi. Tempat tol dikutip disebut pondok tol atau plaza tol. Selain jalan raya, tol juga mungkin dikenakan untuk melalui jambatan dan terowong. Terdapat dua jenis jalan tol: sistem terbuka dan sistem tertutup. Dalam sistem tertutup, semua pemandu perlu mengambil tiket di plaza masuk, dan menjelaskan bayaran di plaza keluar. Kadar bayaran adalah mengikut jarak perjalanan.
