A captain, a shipowner or commander, also a crew member of an armed merchant ship, fighting at his own expense and risk in the service of his navy at sea. The lender provided legal protection and the right to retain most of the profits. In general, the term kaper and kaperstwo - are synonymous with the term corsair and corsair, with the former referring to the Baltic and North Sea in the period from the 15th to the 18th century. Zasadniczo terminy kaper i kaperstwo - są bliskoznaczne terminom korsarz i korsarstwo, przy czym te pierwsze odnoszą się do Morza Bałtyckiego i Północnego w okresie od XV do XVIII wieku.
