Tars

Tars - an ancient and medieval town in the south of Cilicia, on the Kydnos River. Currently Tarsus in southern Turkey. Founded between the 9th and the 9th centuries before Christ. Next to the city was an important trade route called "Cylick's Gate". In the eighth century BC, conquered by Assyria, later under Persia. In 333 BC, captured by Alexander III the Great. After his death under the rule of the Seleucid dynasty. From the year 64 before Christ the capital of the Roman Province of Cilicia. From the 7th century under Arab rule. During the Crusades, the city was incorporated into the Kingdom of Little Armenia. From 1359 it was under the control of the Mamluk Sultanate, acquired by the Turks in 1516. From the city were St. Paul of Tarsus Apostle, Teodor of Tarsus and Diodor of Tarsus. In Tarsus he was executed in 290. Boniface. In Tarsa died in 313 Roman emperor Maximus II Daja, in 1101 the son of the French King Henry I and Hugo de Vermandois. Tars – starożytne i średniowieczne miasto w południowej w Cylicji, nad rzeką Kydnos. Obecnie Tarsus w południowej Turcji. Założony między X a IX wieku przed Chrystusem. Obok miasta przebiegał ważny trakt handlowy zwany "Wrotami Cylickimi". W VIII wieku przed Chrystusem podbity przez Asyrię, później pod panowaniem Persji. W roku 333 przed Chrystusem zdobyty przez Aleksandra III Wielkiego. Po jego śmierci pod panowaniem dynastii Seleucydów. Od roku 64 przed Chrystusem stolica rzymskiej prowincji Cylicji. Od VII wieku pod panowaniem arabskim. W czasie wojen krzyżowych miasto weszło w skład Królestwa Małej Armenii. Od 1359 roku znalazło się pod zwierzchnictwem sułtanatu mameluckiego, zdobyte przez Turków w roku 1516. Z miasta pochodzili: święty Paweł z Tarsu apostoł, Teodor z Tarsu i Diodor z Tarsu. W Tarsie został stracony w 290 roku św. Bonifacy. W Tarsie zmarli: w roku 313 cesarz rzymski Maksymin II Daja, w roku 1101 syn króla Francji Henryka I i Hugo de Vermandois.
