WHAT DOES CANTÁBILE MEAN IN PORTUGUESE?

Cantabile

Cantabile is a musical term that literally means "cantable" or "like a song" in Italian. It has different meanings depending on the context. In instrumental music, it indicates a particular style of playing imitating the human voice. For the eighteenth-century composers, the term is often used as "singing," and indicates a moderate and flexible time, a legato execution. For later composers, particularly piano music, cantabile indicates the emphasis of a particular musical line on accompaniment. In opera, cantabile is used as a name that alludes to the first half of a double aria, followed by a cabaletta. The cantabile movement would be slower and freer in contrast to the structured and generally faster cabaletta. Concerning the interpretation, it indicates that it should be done in a melodious and without sudden changes, legato, as one who sings sweetly.
