Carica

Carica is a genus of about two dozen species of trees and shrubs without branches native to Central and South America. All fruits of these species are edible, many of which are cultivated, at least in their countries of origin. The most commercially cultivated species are papaya and baboon. The genus of the species refers to the former province of Cária in Asia Minor, due to a mistake by Lineu that made any confusion as to where the plants originated.
