More than a simple drawing, the cartoon is a political-social critique where the artist graphically expresses his vision about certain everyday situations through humor and satire. To understand a cartoon, you do not necessarily have to be a cultured person, just be inside what happens around you. The cartoon has a greater reach than an editorial, for example, so the charge, as a critical design, is feared by the powerful. It is no wonder that when censorship is established in some country, the charge is the first target of the censors below.

Charge é um estilo de ilustração que tem por finalidade satirizar, por meio de uma caricatura, algum acontecimento atual com um ou mais personagens envolvidos. A palavra é de origem francesa e significa carga, ou seja, exagera traços do caráter de alguém ou de algo para torná-lo burlesco. Muito utilizadas em críticas políticas no Brasil. Apesar de ser confundido com cartoon, que é uma palavra de origem inglesa, ao contrário da charge, que sempre é uma crítica contundente ligada a temporalidade, o cartoon retrata situações mais corriqueiras do dia-a-dia da sociedade. Mais do que um simples desenho, a charge é uma crítica político-social onde o artista expressa graficamente sua visão sobre determinadas situações cotidianas através do humor e da sátira. Para entender uma charge, não é preciso ser necessariamente uma pessoa culta, basta estar por dentro do que acontece ao seu redor. A charge tem um alcance maior do que um editorial, por exemplo, por isso a charge, como desenho crítico, é temida pelos poderosos. Não é à toa que quando se estabelece censura em algum país, a charge é o primeiro alvo dos censores infra.
