Dio was a heavy metal band created by Ronnie James Dio in 1982 after his departure from Black Sabbath. In an interview on the special edition of the Holy Diver album, Dio said he never intended to start a solo project, but only to form a new band along with former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. But Dio ended up being the name of the band by accident, and the name simply seemed good for the band. Also invited to the band were guitarist Vivian Campbell, Rainbow's former Dio bandmate Jimmy Bain.

Dio foi uma banda de heavy metal criada por Ronnie James Dio em 1982 após sua saída do Black Sabbath. Em entrevista disponível na edição especial do álbum Holy Diver, Dio disse que nunca teve intenção de começar um projeto solo e sim apenas formar uma nova banda, juntamente com o baterista ex-Black Sabbath, Vinny Appice. Mas Dio acabou sendo o nome da banda por acidente, e o nome simplesmente pareceu bom para a banda. Foram convidados também para a banda o guitarrista Vivian Campbell, o ex companheiro de banda de Dio na época do Rainbow, Jimmy Bain.
