WHAT DOES ENTREPANO MEAN IN PORTUGUESE?

Intercolumn

Intercolumn, also referred to as intercolumn, entrepano and entrepilastra, in architecture refers to the space between two consecutive columns. It is the gap between two adjacent columns in a colonnade, commonly measured between the surfaces of the lower parts of the shaft. In classical architecture it was measured by its correspondence to the diameter of the column. The term extends to the piece of wall comprised between two half columns or between two columns. In classical, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, the intercolumn was determined by a system developed by the Roman architect of the first century, Vitruvius. Vitruvius compiled patterns of intercolumns for three classical Greek orders, expressed in terms of column diameter, twice the Vitruvian module, alerting to the fact that having placed a spacing equal to or greater than three times the column diameter, stone architraves are subject to breakage.
