Oca

Oca is the name given to the typical Brazilian Indian dwelling. The term comes from the Tupi-Guarani linguistic family. The hollows are large constructions, and can reach 30 m in length. They are built in mutirão for about a week, with a structure of wood and taquaras and cover of straw or palm leaves. They last for 15 years. They do not have internal divisions or windows, only one or a few doors, and serve as collective housing for several families.

Oca é o nome dado à típica habitação indígena brasileira. O termo é oriundo da família linguística tupi-guarani. As ocas são construções de grandes dimensões, podendo a chegar a 30 m de comprimento. São construídas em mutirão ao longo de cerca de uma semana, com uma estrutura de madeira e taquaras e cobertura de palha ou folhas de palmeira. Chegam a durar 15 anos. Não possuem divisões internas ou janelas, apenas uma ou poucas portas, e servem de habitação coletiva para várias famílias.
