Ode

Ode

Ode is a poetic composition that emerged in Ancient Greece, and was sung and accompanied by the lyre, or simply lyrical. Ode, in Greek, means singing. It is divided into stanzas similar to each other, both by number and by measure of verses, usually four verses or divided into three recurring parts when chorale. The Greek poets Alceu, Sappho and Anacreon wrote odes. Already in Rome, where it was called more commonly of carmem, had cultores like Catulo and Horacio. In century XIX had vast production in Italy, with Gabriele d'Annunzio; in France, with Victor Hugo; in Spain, with Manuel José Quintana among others. In the dictionary Houaiss of the Portuguese language we have: ▪ among the ancient Greeks, lyric poem intended for singing. ▪ a lyric poem composed of verses of equal versa, always with a cheerful and enthusiastic tone. A lyric poem of complex and variable form, the ode is characterized by the high and sublime tone with which it treats a certain subject.
