The State Tourist Park of Alto Ribeira is located in the south of the state of São Paulo, between the municipalities of Apiaí and Iporanga. It has one of the largest preserved extensions of the original Atlantic Forest, in addition to having one of the largest concentrations of caves on the planet and an immense amount of waterfalls. PETAR has approximately 36,000 hectares covered by one of the last remnants of the Atlantic Forest in the state of São Paulo. Its mountains, valleys, waterfalls, crystal clear rivers, caves, exuberant fauna and flora have made PETAR a very important point for Brazilian ecotourism. The presence of the caves together with the preserved Atlantic Forest allows the visitor to know different environments, to go through some obstacles, to bathe waterfalls outside and inside caves. Its great diversity of itineraries allows to please from the beginners to the veterans. PETAR receives about 2,600 tourists in the summer, and approximately 1,500 in the winter. This tourism is practiced mostly by schools and colleges, which seek to increase the knowledge of their students.

O Parque Estadual Turístico do Alto Ribeira se localiza no sul do estado de São Paulo, entre os municípios de Apiaí e Iporanga. Ele possui uma das maiores extensões preservadas de Mata Atlântica original, além de ter uma das maiores concentrações de cavernas do planeta e uma imensa quantidade de cachoeiras. O PETAR possui aproximadamente 36.000 hectares de cobertos por uma dos últimos remanescentes da Mata Atlântica no estado de São Paulo. Suas montanhas, vales, cachoeiras, rios de águas cristalinas, cavernas, fauna e flora exuberantes tornaram o PETAR um ponto muito importante para o ecoturismo brasileiro. A presença das cavernas em conjunto com a Mata Atlântica preservada propicia ao visitante conhecer diversos ambientes, passar por alguns obstáculos, tomar banho de cachoeiras fora e dentro de cavernas. Sua grande diversidade de roteiros permite agradar desde aos iniciantes até aos veteranos. O PETAR recebe cerca de 2.600 turista no verão, e aproximadamente 1.500 no período do inverno. Este turismo é praticado na maioria das vezes por escolas e faculdades, que buscam aumentar o conhecimento de seus alunos.
