sl. dvorĭba, de la
dvorŭ „curte” (Tiktin; Candrea; Densusianu,
GS, II, 16), prin intermediul unei evoluții ca cea a lui
cuvînt ‹
conventum. Prezența lui
horbă „adunare” la Dosoftei (Iordan,
BL, IX, 57) și „vorbă” la Neculce, pare să confirme această ipoteză. Totuși,
dvorbă apare în limba veche cu sensul de „serviciu la curte” și nu se confundă niciodată cu
vorbă; pe de altă parte,
voroavă nu a căpătat o explicație satisfăcătoare.
