Información
La información es la que informa, es decir, de qué datos se pueden derivar. La información se transmite como contenido de un mensaje o por observación directa o indirecta de alguna cosa. Lo que se percibe puede ser interpretado como un mensaje por derecho propio, y en ese sentido, la información siempre se transmite como el contenido de un mensaje. La información puede ser codificada en varias formas para su transmisión e interpretación. Por ejemplo, la información puede ser codificada en signos y transmitida a través de señales. En Termodinámica, la información es cualquier tipo de evento que afecta el estado de un sistema dinámico que puede interpretar la información. La información resuelve la incertidumbre. La incertidumbre de un evento se mide por su probabilidad de ocurrencia y es inversamente proporcional a eso. Cuanto más incierto es un evento, más información se requiere para resolver la incertidumbre de ese evento. El bit es una unidad típica de información, pero pueden usarse otras unidades como la nat. Ejemplo: información en una moneda "justa" flip: log2 = 1 bit, y en dos flips de moneda justa es log2 = 2 bits. El concepto de que la información es el mensaje tiene diferentes significados en diferentes contextos.
