Presbítero en el Nuevo Testamento se refiere a un líder en las congregaciones cristianas locales, a menudo no se distingue claramente de episkopos, presbítero refiriéndose a los ancianos ordinarios y episkopos referente exclusivamente a la oficina de obispo. En el uso moderno, es así distinto del obispo y sinónimo de sacerdote.
