En la ley inglesa y en el derecho canónico de la Iglesia de Inglaterra, un reproche es una censura contra un miembro del clero. Es la menos severa censura disponible contra el clero de la Iglesia de Inglaterra, menos severa que una monición. Una reprensión puede ser dada en persona por un obispo o por un tribunal eclesiástico. En la Iglesia de Escocia era necesario un reproche para que los delincuentes morales "purgaran su escándalo". There was sometimes there was a special repentance stool near the pulpit for this purpose. In a few places the subject was expected to wear sackcloth. From the 1770s private rebukes were increasingly administered by the kirk session, particularly for men from the social elites, while until the 1820s the poor were almost always give a public rebuke.
