Belisha Beacon
Un belisha beacon / bəliːʃə / est une lampe de globe de couleur ambrée au sommet d'un grand poteau noir et blanc, marquant les passages pour piétons des routes au Royaume-Uni, en Irlande et dans d'autres pays historiquement influencés par la Grande-Bretagne. Il a été nommé d'après Leslie Hore-Belisha, le ministre des Transports qui, en 1934, a ajouté des balises aux passages pour piétons, marqués par de grands poteaux en métal sur la route. Ces passages ont ensuite été peints en rayures noir et blanc, sont donc appelés passages de zèbres. Les piétons légaux ont priorité sur de tels passages. Belisha Beacons offre une visibilité supplémentaire pour les passages de zèbres pour les automobilistes, surtout la nuit. Le flash dure généralement une seconde à la fois sur les états de marche et arrêt. Certains passages sont réglés de manière à ce que chaque balise clignote alternativement de l'autre côté, mais ils ne tombent souvent pas dans la synchronisation au fil du temps. Les balises avec une bague extérieure de lumières LED ambrées clignotantes, privilégiées pour leur luminosité et leur faible consommation d'électricité, remplacent les ampoules à incandescence traditionnelles dans de nombreuses zones. Pour être légalement conforme, chaque croisement de zèbres doit être équipé de deux balises Belisha.
