Cicatrice
Les cicatrices sont des zones de tissu fibreux qui remplacent la peau normale après une blessure. Une cicatrice résulte du processus biologique de réparation des plaies dans la peau et d'autres tissus du corps. Ainsi, la cicatrisation est une partie naturelle du processus de guérison. À l'exception des lésions très mineures, chaque blessure entraîne un certain degré de cicatrisation. Une exception à ceci concerne les animaux avec une régénération complète, qui repousse le tissu sans formation de cicatrices. Le tissu cicatriciel est composé de la même protéine que le tissu qu'il remplace, mais la composition fibreuse de la protéine est différente; Au lieu d'une formation aléatoire des fibres de collagène trouvées dans le tissu normal, dans la fibrose, les collages de collagène et forment un alignement prononcé dans une seule direction. Cet alignement des tissus cicatriciels de collagène est habituellement de qualité fonctionnelle inférieure à l'alignement aléatoire de collagène normal. Par exemple, les cicatrices de la peau sont moins résistantes aux rayonnements ultraviolets, et les glandes sudoripares et les follicules capillaires ne reculent pas dans les tissus cicatriciels. Un infarctus du myocarde, communément connu sous le nom d'une crise cardiaque, provoque une formation de cicatrice dans le muscle cardiaque, ce qui entraîne une perte de pouvoir musculaire et éventuellement une insuffisance cardiaque.
