Culture

La culture est un concept moderne basé sur un terme utilisé pour la première fois dans l'antiquité classique par l'orateur romain Cicéron: "cultura animi". Cette utilisation non agricole du terme «culture» est apparue dans l'Europe moderne au 17ème siècle en se référant à l'amélioration ou au raffinement des individus, notamment par l'éducation. Au cours des 18e et 19e siècles, il est venu de se référer plus fréquemment aux points de référence communs de tous les peuples, et la discussion du terme était souvent liée aux aspirations ou aux idéaux nationaux. Certains scientifiques comme Edward Tylor ont utilisé le terme «culture» pour se référer à une capacité humaine universelle. Au 20ème siècle, la «culture» est apparue comme un concept central en anthropologie, englobant la gamme des phénomènes humains qui ne peuvent être directement attribués à l'héritage génétique. Plus précisément, le terme «culture» dans l'anthropologie américaine avait deux significations: ▪ la capacité humaine évoluée à classer et à représenter les expériences avec les symboles et à agir de façon imaginative et créative; Et ▪ les différentes façons dont les personnes, qui vivent différemment, classifient et représentent leurs expériences et agissent de manière créative. Culture is a modern concept based on a term first used in classical antiquity by the Roman orator Cicero: "cultura animi". This non-agricultural use of the term "culture" re-appeared in modern Europe in the 17th century referring to the betterment or refinement of individuals, especially through education. During the 18th and 19th century it came to refer more frequently to the common reference points of whole peoples, and discussion of the term was often connected to national aspirations or ideals. Some scientists such as Edward Tylor used the term "culture" to refer to a universal human capacity. In the 20th century, "culture" emerged as a central concept in anthropology, encompassing the range of human phenomena that cannot be directly attributed to genetic inheritance. Specifically, the term "culture" in American anthropology had two meanings: ▪ the evolved human capacity to classify and represent experiences with symbols, and to act imaginatively and creatively; and ▪ the distinct ways that people, who live differently, classified and represented their experiences, and acted creatively.

Other definition of culture is the total range of activities and ideas of a group of people with shared traditions, which are transmitted and reinforced by members of the group. Culture is also a particular civilization at a particular period.
