Méfiance

La méfiance est une manière formelle de ne pas faire trop confiance à une partie dans une situation de grave risque ou de doute sérieux. Il est communément exprimé en civisme comme une division ou un équilibre des pouvoirs, ou en politique comme moyen de valider les termes du traité. Les systèmes basés sur la méfiance divisent simplement la responsabilité afin que les contrôles et les soldes puissent fonctionner. L'expression "Trust, mais vérifier" se réfère spécifiquement à la méfiance. Un système électoral ou un processus contradictoire repose inévitablement sur la méfiance, mais pas sur la méfiance. Les partis concourent dans le système, mais ils ne concourent pas pour subvertir le système lui-même, ou gagnent de l'avantage de mauvaise foi par le biais de celui-ci - s'ils le font, ils sont facilement capturés par les autres. Bien sûr, beaucoup de méfiance existe entre les parties, et c'est exactement cela qui motive la mise en place d'un système formel de méfiance.
