Probabilité empirique
La probabilité empirique, également connue sous le nom de fréquence relative, ou probabilité expérimentale, est le ratio du nombre de résultats dans lequel un événement spécifié se produit au nombre total d'essais, non dans un espace d'échantillonnage théorique mais dans une expérience réelle. Dans un sens plus général, la probabilité empirique prévoit des probabilités d'expérience et d'observation. En termes statistiques, la probabilité empirique est une estimation ou un estimateur d'une probabilité. Dans des cas simples, lorsque le résultat d'un essai détermine seulement si l'événement spécifié est survenu, la modélisation à l'aide d'une distribution binomiale peut être appropriée et l'estimation empirique est l'estimation du maximum de vraisemblance. C'est l'estimation bayésienne pour le même cas si certaines hypothèses sont faites pour la distribution préalable de la probabilité. Si un essai donne plus d'informations, la probabilité empirique peut être améliorée en adoptant d'autres hypothèses sous la forme d'un modèle statistique: si un tel modèle est adapté, il peut être utilisé pour calculer une estimation de la probabilité de l'événement spécifié.
