Les Nabatéens, aussi les Nabatéens, étaient un ancien peuple sémitique qui habitait le nord de l'Arabie et le Levant du Sud, leurs colonies en CE 37 - c. 100, a donné le nom de Nabatene à la frontière entre l'Arabie et la Syrie, de l'Euphrate à la mer Rouge. Leur réseau de négociation faiblement contrôlé, axé sur des chaînes d'oasis qu'ils contrôlaient, où l'agriculture était intensivement pratiquée dans des zones limitées et sur les routes qui les liaient, n'avait pas de frontières solidement définies dans le désert environnant. Trajan a conquis le royaume de Nabataean, l'annexant à l'Empire romain, où sa culture individuelle, facilement identifiée par ses céramiques peintes caractérisées en fin de poterie, s'est dispersée dans la culture greco-romaine générale et a finalement été perdue.
