Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul est un écrivain britannique du patrimoine indien, primé par le prix Nobel de la Trinité, connu pour ses premiers romans humoristiques établis à Trinidad, ses romans plus sombres du monde entier et ses chroniques autobiographiques de la vie et des voyages. Naipaul a publié plus de 30 livres, tant de fiction que de non-fiction, sur une cinquantaine d'années. Naipaul a été marié à Patricia Ann Hale de 1955 jusqu'à sa mort en 1996. Elle a été le premier lecteur, rédacteur en chef et critique de ses écrits. Naipaul lui a consacré sa Maison à M. Biswas. Naipaul a épousé Nadira Naipaul, ancienne journaliste pakistanaise, en 1996.
