Théologie naturelle
La théologie naturelle, autrefois appelée Physico-théologie, est une branche de la théologie qui fournit des arguments téléologiques pour l'existence de Dieu fondée sur la raison et l'expérience ordinaire de la nature. Cela le distingue de la théologie révélée, basée sur l'écriture et les expériences religieuses, et aussi sur la théologie transcendantale, qui repose sur un raisonnement a priori. Marcus Terentius Varro a établi une distinction entre la théologie politique, la théologie naturelle et la théologie mythique. Sa terminologie est entrée dans la tradition stoïcienne et ensuite par le christianisme par saint Augustin et saint Thomas d'Aquin. La théologie naturelle est donc une branche de la philosophie, dont l'objet est la nature des dieux ou un Dieu suprême. Dans les religions monothéistes, cela implique principalement des arguments sur les attributs ou les non-attributs de Dieu, et surtout l'existence de Dieu, des arguments qui n'impliquent pas le recours à la révélation surnaturelle.
