Nicolas de Cusa
Nicholas of Kues, également appelé Nicolaus Cusanus et Nicholas of Cusa, était un philosophe, un théologien, un juriste et un astronome allemand. L'un des premiers partisans allemands de l'humanisme de la Renaissance, il a fait des contributions spirituelles et politiques dans l'histoire européenne. Un exemple notable de cela est ses écrits mystiques ou spirituels sur «l'ignorance savante», ainsi que sa participation aux luttes de pouvoir entre Rome et les états allemands du Saint Empire romain germanique. Legat papal en Allemagne à partir de 1446, il fut nommé cardinal pour ses mérites par le pape Nicolas V en 1448 et le prince évêque de Brixen deux ans plus tard. En 1459, il devint vicaire général dans les États pontificaux.
