L'exploitation minière à ciel ouvert
L'exploitation minière à ciel ouvert, l'exploitation minière à découvert ou l'exploitation à ciel ouvert est une technique d'extraction de surface d'extraction de roche ou de minéraux de la terre par leur retrait d'une fosse à ciel ouvert ou emprunté. Cette forme d'exploitation minière diffère des méthodes extractives qui nécessitent un tunnel dans la terre, comme l'extraction à longue paroi. Les mines à ciel ouvert qui produisent des matériaux de construction et des pierres de dimensions sont communément appelées carrières. Les mines à ciel ouvert sont généralement agrandies jusqu'à ce que la ressource minérale soit épuisée, ou un ratio croissant de débordement sur le minerai rend l'exploitation minière non rentable. Lorsque cela se produit, les mines épuisées sont parfois converties en sites d'enfouissement pour l'élimination des déchets solides.
