Un parapet est une barrière qui est une extension du mur au bord d'un toit, d'une terrasse, d'un balcon, d'une passerelle ou d'une autre structure. Lorsqu'il s'étend au-dessus d'un toit, il peut s'agir simplement de la partie d'une paroi extérieure qui continue au-dessus de la ligne de la surface du toit, ou peut être une continuation d'une caractéristique verticale sous le toit tel qu'une paroi de feu ou un mur de fête.
