Parjure
Le parjure, également connu sous le nom de renversement, est l'acte intentionnel de jurer un faux serment ou de falsifier une affirmation pour dire la vérité, que ce soit parlé ou par écrit, concernant les questions relatives à une procédure officielle. Contrairement à l'idée fausse populaire, aucun crime n'est survenu lorsqu'une fausse déclaration est faite sous serment ou sous peine de pénalité. La culpabilité criminelle ne s'attache qu'à l'instant où le déclarant affirme faussement la vérité des déclarations qui sont importantes pour l'issue de la procédure. Par exemple, ce n'est pas le parjure de mentir à propos de son âge, sauf si l'âge est un élément important pour influencer le résultat légal, comme l'éligibilité aux prestations de retraite de vieillesse ou si une personne avait un âge pour avoir une capacité légale. Le pérjure est considéré comme une infraction grave car il usurpe l'ordre créé par les tribunaux. Il en résulte des fausses couches de la justice, un préjudice secondaire à la personne déjà victime de la première infraction et un préjudice général à la confiance de la paix échangée contre paiement de taxes.
