Raphaël
Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, plus connu simplement que Raphaël, était un peintre et architecte italien de la Haute Renaissance. Son travail est admiré pour sa clarté de forme et sa facilité de composition et pour son accomplissement visuel de l'idéal néoplatonique de grandeur humaine. Avec Michel-Ange et Léonard de Vinci, il forme la trinité traditionnelle des grands maîtres de cette époque. Raphaël a été extrêmement productif, a dirigé un atelier exceptionnellement grand et, malgré sa mort à 37 ans, a laissé un grand nombre de travaux. Beaucoup de ses œuvres sont trouvées dans le Palais du Vatican, où les salles de Raphaël fresques étaient le centre et le plus grand travail de sa carrière. Après ses premières années à Rome, une grande partie de son travail a été exécutée par son atelier à partir de ses dessins, avec une perte considérable de qualité.
