Lachnanthes est un genre de plantes monocotylédones dans la famille du génie du sang ne contenant qu'une seule espèce, à savoir Lachnanthes caroliniana, communément appelée racine sanguine ou racine sanguine. La plante est originaire de l'est de l'Amérique du Nord, du sud-est de la Nouvelle-Écosse et du Massachusetts au nord, du sud à la Floride et à Cuba, et à l'ouest le long du golfe du Mexique jusqu'à la Louisiane. Il préfère les sols humides, acides et habituellement sableux, ce qui le limite à divers habitats des zones humides, comme les tourbières, les pinacles, les hamacs et les pénins, entre autres. Le nom commun de la plante est basé sur ses racines rouges et ses rhizomes. Ses fleurs, composées de six tepals jaune pâle, émergent du milieu à la fin de l'été. La plante est parfois une mauvaise herbe importante dans les tourbières commerciales de canneberges.
