Le football d'association, plus connu sous le nom de football ou de football, est un sport joué entre deux équipes de onze joueurs avec une balle sphérique. Il est joué par 250 millions de joueurs dans plus de 200 pays, ce qui en fait le sport le plus populaire au monde. Le jeu se joue sur un champ rectangulaire avec un but à chaque extrémité. L'objet du jeu est de marquer en utilisant n'importe quelle partie du corps en plus des bras et des mains pour faire passer la balle dans le but adverse. Les gardiens de but sont les seuls joueurs autorisés à toucher la balle avec leurs mains ou leurs bras alors qu'ils sont en jeu et seulement dans leur zone de pénalité. Les joueurs extérieurs utilisent surtout leurs pieds pour frapper ou passer la balle, mais ils peuvent utiliser leur tête ou leur torse pour frapper le ballon à la place. L'équipe qui marque le plus de buts à la fin du match gagne. Si le score est au niveau de la fin du jeu, un tirage au sort est déclaré ou le jeu passe en temps supplémentaire et / ou un tirage au sort en fonction du format de la compétition. Les lois du jeu ont été initialement codifiées en Angleterre par The Football Association en 1863.
