Makia est une formation secondaire de végétation qui se produit dans les habitats plus humides de la région méditerranéenne. Il a été mis en place dans un endroit de Romains durs, principalement boisés de chêne. Il est fait de broussailles persistantes, durement cuites, constituées d'arbres brûlés tels que Quercus coccifer et Quercus ilex, Cedrus atlantica, Arbutus andrachne, d'olive sauvage et de Pistacia lentiscus, de petits arbustes et arbustes; nombreuses espèces de plantes herbacées aromatiques. Wiele z olejków eterycznych owych roślin ma zastosowanie w medycynie. Okres wegetacji przypada na wiosnę, gdy ilość opadów jest największa. Na glebach wapiennych makia przechodzi w garig. Od makii swą nazwę przyjęli maquis, francuscy partyzanci z czasów II wojny światowej.
