L'avidità, anche conosciuta come avarizia, cupidità o covetanza, è l'inordinato desiderio di possedere beni, beni o oggetti di valore astratto con l'intenzione di mantenerlo per sé, ben oltre i dettami della sopravvivenza e del comfort di base. Si usa tipicamente per criticare coloro che cercano ricchezza materiale eccessiva, anche se può applicarsi alla necessità di sentirsi eccessivamente morale, sociale o altrimenti migliore di qualcun altro.
