Recitativo
Recitativo / ˌrɛsɪtətiːv /, conosciuto anche dal suo nome italiano "recitativo", è uno stile di consegna in cui un cantante può adottare i ritmi del discorso ordinario. Il recitativo secco, principalmente sillabico, si trova ad una estremità di uno spettro attraverso recitativo accompagnato, l'arioso più melismatico, e infine l'aria o l'ensemble pieno soffiato, dove l'impulso è interamente governato dalla musica. Recitativo non ripete le righe come canzoni formalmente composte fanno. Essa assomiglia al discorso ordinario più comune di una composizione musicale formale. Il termine recitativo si applica anche alle formule più semplici del canto gregoriano, come i toni usati per l'Epistola e il Vangelo, la prefazione e la raccolta.
