Chaldea ou Chaldæa (/ kældiːə /), do grego Χαλδαία, Chaldaia; Akkadian: māt Ḫaldu; Hebraico: כשדים, Kaśdim; Aramaico: ܟܠܕܘ, Kaldo) era uma nação existente entre os séculos 10 e 6 aC, localizada na terra pantanosa do extremo sul do leste da Mesopotâmia que veio para governar Babilônia brevemente. As tribos dos imigrantes semíticos que chegaram à região do Levant durante o século 10 aC tornaram-se conhecidas como os caldeus ou os caldeus. A Bíblia hebraica usa o termo כשדים (Kaśdim) e isso é traduzido como caldéia na Septuaginta. A dinastía 11 de curta duração dos Reis da Babilônia (século VI aC) é convencionalmente conhecida pelos historiadores como a dinastia caldéia, embora apenas os primeiros quatro governantes desta dinastia tenham sido conhecidos como caldeus e o último governante, Nabonidus e seu filho e regente Belshazzar, eram conhecidos por ser da Assíria. A região em que os caldeus se estabeleceram estava na porção sul-oriental da Babilônia, principalmente na margem direita do Eufrates.
