O interesse é uma taxa paga por um mutuário de ativos ao proprietário como uma forma de compensação pelo uso dos ativos. É mais comum o preço pago pelo uso de dinheiro emprestado, ou dinheiro obtido por fundos depositados. Quando o dinheiro é emprestado, o interesse geralmente é pago ao credor como uma porcentagem do principal, o montante devido ao credor. A porcentagem do principal que é pago como uma taxa durante um determinado período de tempo é chamada de taxa de juros. Um depósito bancário ganhará juros porque o banco está pagando pelo uso dos fundos depositados.
