Árvores de leguminosas como as árvores Locust ou o coffeetree de Kentucky podem ser usadas em florestas alimentares de permacultura. Uma fruta de leguminosa é uma fruta seca simples que se desenvolve a partir de um simples carpel e, geralmente, decila em dois lados. Um nome comum para este tipo de fruta é um pod, embora o termo "pod" também seja aplicado a alguns outros tipos de frutas, como a de baunilha e de rabanete.
