Augur - um sacerdote romano que leu a vontade dos deuses do céu acima da cidade com base em fenômenos atmosféricos e observação de pássaros. Na república tardia, quando os vôos de pássaros sobre Roma densamente povoada já eram raros, galinhas especiais eram usadas para ler a vontade dos deuses. Augurzy também participou de expedições de guerra, onde também mantiveram auspícios. Nenhum evento social, político ou militar importante na Roma antiga da era pré-cristã poderia ter ocorrido sem "inauguração".

Augur – rzymski kapłan, który odczytywał wolę bogów z nieba nad miastem na podstawie zjawisk atmosferycznych i lotu ptaków. W okresie późnej republiki, gdy loty ptaków nad gęsto zaludnionym Rzymem były już rzadkie, do odczytania woli bogów używano specjalnie hodowane kury. Augurzy uczestniczyli także w wyprawach wojennych, na których również sprawowali auspicja. Żadne ważne wydarzenie społeczne, polityczne czy militarne w starożytnym Rzymie epoki przedchrześcijańskiej nie mogło odbyć się bez "inauguracji".
