O Logos, em grego, está no sentido de compreender os usos e usa a palavra pathos para compreender emoções. A palavra logos, que se baseia no conceito de ser de Herakleitos e não pode ser traduzida para outro idioma, é uma palavra muito significativa, como palavra, pensamento, razão, taxa, medida. No século V aC, o logotipo de Heráclito definiu o universo sob a forma de um princípio racional que estabeleceu e moveu o universo como um todo. Assim, os logos eram o princípio da ordem subjacente a ambas as formações e a forma primitiva de conhecimento que determina a concepção do universo como tal; a compreensão do universo ocorreu em uma certa proporção, isto é, em termos de idade em relação uns aos outros. Nesse sentido, os logotipos são especialmente opostos ao acaso e à progressividade. O significado dado por Herakleitos é diferente de "nous", que é o principal conceito de Anaxágoras. Nós também estamos presentes como organizadores diante do universo, e vem do exterior, e os logotipos estão com o universo e na formação universal. Herakleitos diz que tudo passa; não há nada permanente no meio ambiente.

Buna göre logos, hem oluşumların altında yatan ve onları biçimlendiren düzen ilkesi hem de evrenin böyle bir düzen olarak kavranmasında belirleyici olan bilgi ilkesiydi; evrenin kavranması belirli orantılara yani karşılıklı ilişki içindeki yas niteliğinde bağlantılara göre gerçekleşiyordu. Bu anlamıyla logos özellikle rastlantı ve gelişigüzelliğin karşıtıdır. Herakleitos'un verdiği anlam Anaksagoras'ın baş kavramı olan “nous” dan farklıdır. Nous bir düzenleyici olarak evrenden önce de vardır ve evrene dışardan gelir, logos ise evrenle birliktedir ve evrensel oluşun içindedir. Herakleitos her şey çıkar geçer der; evrende kalıcı olan hiçbir şey yoktur.
