Autoritarismul
Autoritarismul este o formă de guvernare. Se caracterizează prin ascultare absolută sau orbă față de autoritate, față de libertatea individuală și legată de așteptarea supunerii necontestate. Juan Linz, a cărui descriere a autoritarismului din 1964 este influentă, a caracterizat regimurile autoritare ca sisteme politice prin patru calități: "pluralismul politic limitat, neresponsabil"; adică constrângeri asupra instituțiilor și grupurilor politice, o bază pentru legitimitate bazată pe emoție, în special identificarea regimului ca fiind un rău necesar pentru a combate "problemele societale ușor de recunoscut", cum ar fi subdezvoltarea sau insurgența; nici "mobilizarea politică intensă și extensivă", nici constrângerile asupra puterii executive în masă și puterea executivă "în mod clar defectuoasă", adesea schimbatoare sau vagi.
