Chalicothere
Chalicotheres au fost un grup de mamifere ungulate erbivore, ciudate, care s-au răspândit în America de Nord, Europa, Asia și Africa, în timpul epocenilor de la Early Eocene până la Pleistocene timpurii, care trăiau de la 55,8 ani-781 000 de ani în urmă, existând aproximativ 55,02 milioane de ani. Ei au evoluat în urmă cu aproximativ 40 de milioane de ani de la animalele forestiere mici, asemănătoare cu caii timpurii. Multe chalicotere, inclusiv animale precum Moropus și Chalicotherium, au ajuns la un cal. De la sfârșitul Oligocenului, se împărțiseră în două grupe: unul care pășunea în zone deschise și altul mai adaptat pădurilor. Au murit în urmă cu aproximativ 3,5 milioane de ani și sunt legate de brontotheres dispărute, precum și de cai moderni de zi, rinoceroză și tapir. Anisodon grande, fost Chalicotherium grande.
