CE ÎNSEAMNĂ CONSTRICT ÎN ENGLEZĂ?

Constricția este o metodă folosită de diverse specii de șarpe pentru a-și ucide prada. Deși unele specii de șerpi veninoși și ușor veninoși nu folosesc constricția pentru a-și supune prada, majoritatea șerpilor care utilizează constricția nu au venin. Șarpele loveste inițial prada și se ține pe el, tragând prada în bobine sau, în cazul unei pradă foarte mare, tragându-se pe prada. Șarpele va înfășura una sau două bobine în jurul prazii. Șerpii monitorizează apoi furia inimii prazii pentru a stabili când a murit. Un Rainbow Boa constrictând și înghițind un șoarece Contrar mitului, șarpele nu zdrobește prada sau chiar își rupe oasele. Este în general acceptat ca șerpii să țină suficient de bine pentru a împiedica prada să tragă aer în plămâni, ducând la moartea de asfixiere. De asemenea, sa sugerat că presiunea de constricție determină o creștere a presiunii în cavitatea corpului pradă mai mare decât inima poate contracara, ducând la stop cardiac imediat. Această nouă ipoteză nu a fost încă confirmată, dar datele indică faptul că șerpii pot exercita o presiune suficientă pentru ca acest mecanism să fie plauzibil.
